HomeWilderness First Aid

Next class: April 26, 2025. Registration opens April 1, 2025 (no joke!)

We get it. Sometimes things happen that you didn't anticipate. That's part of the inherent risks that go with outdoor activities. However, are you prepared for the unexpected? If the answer is "no," then you need to participate in a wilderness first aid course. This two-day class will give you the tools and knowledge necessary to handle most incidents in a remote setting.

Some of the Things That Will be Taught

  • Performing a victim assessment
  • Splinting fractures
  • Recognizing medical conditions
  • Treating common illnesses
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Choking
  • Adult CPR

What Will You Get Out of This Course?

After successful completion of this course, you will earn a certification for wilderness first aid from the Health & Safety Institute. This class has an optional adult CPR/AED component taught at the end of the first day. You will earn a certification in adult CPR/AED if you pass. Both certifications are good for two years from the completion date.

Continue Your Training

The fun of learning doesn't stop here. If you wish to further advance your skills and knowledge (which you should), consider a natural progression from wilderness first aid to advanced wilderness first aid to wilderness first responder. Advanced wilderness first aid and wilderness first responder are not offered by the club, so you will need to look elsewhere. Consider taking a course from SOLO Southeast, Nolichucky Outdoor Learning Institute (NOLI), or the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).
