Other Info: RACE COURSE: The course is on the "Bowling Alley" section of the North Chickamauga Creek. We will race as long as the level is between 0.5 NCSGUs and 3.0 NCSGUs (NCSGUs= North Chick Stick Gauge Units) The race will start at the normal put in for this section where people cross the creek to the other side of the trail.
Junior participants (age 17 and under on race date) must have a parent/guardian sign the waiver and present on race day.
There are two different races. The first race is a traditional race with racers taking off in one minute intervals. Racers can only compete once in the traditional race. You and your boat must be at the start line at your scheduled race time. You are responsible for bringing your own boat and gear to this point on time. Any person leaving the eddy prematurely will be disqualified. Finish time will be determined when the paddler tags designated rock with the finish line banner with their kayak. The rock will be at the bottom most eddy near the last parking area downstream of the North Chick Stick Gauge. (YOU MUST PHYSICALLY TOUCH THE ROCK TO FINISH). Verify your race number with a timekeeper before heading up the trail. The winner in each division will be determined by fastest time.
The second race is an EXTREME ENDURANCE race after the traditional race. Any racer who would like to join this lap must still be registered to race. It will be a mass start beginning at the bottom of the parking area. You will run with your boat starting from the bottom of the parking area near the finish line up to the start line of the traditional race, and paddle to the rock at the finish line.
Participants are allowed to compete in both the traditional race and the extreme endurance race.
PLEASE RETURN YOUR RACE BIB TO THE TIMERS AT THE FINISH LINE!
After the race, we will have an after party and awards ceremony at Monkey Town Brewery on Ashland Terrace.
RACE DIVISIONS: In the spirit of amateur competition, all professional, sponsored, and members of any paddling race team must race in the elite division. We are only racing short boats. In compliance with the Association of Whitewater Professionals, we are limiting boat length to under nine feet. Race divisions include Elite Men’s, Elite Women’s, Men’s, Women’s, and Youth (if we have enough). You can still race an open canoe or a spud, but a division will only be officially made if at least three racers participate.
Race Divisions are subject to change!
This race is open and free to all TVCC members in good standing. Membership is $20 for an individual membership and $25 for a family membership. You must be a club member to race! This event is not open to one-time guests. TVCC reserves the right to deny race entry to any paddler for any reason. We are asking for donations to benefit the North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy (the people who get us access to this awesome area). You can become a member by clicking here.
