***This event requires a $50 deposit that will be refunded back to you after participation. If you register and later cannot attend, please contact the Treasurer, BG Smith, at Treasurer@tvccpaddler.org before the end of registration so your refund can be processed. If you do not cancel your registration and do not attend, you will forfeit your refund. To learn more, go here: TVCC Refund Policy. In the past, people have donated their deposit because they were very happy with the program. Donations are always appreciated, and are never expected.

Camping: The club reserves several camp sites for this event, and you may camp on Friday/Saturday night if you wish at no cost to you.
Other Info: Want to know how to help rescue a friend, but you don't know how? Or do you know how to self-rescue? Then join our Rescue Rodeo! This class is designed to give the beginner kayaker basic river rescue skills to make whitewater trips safer and more fun. You will learn whitewater safety philosophy, equipment, how to re-enter a swamped boat, how to tow swimmers using your boat, equipment recovery techniques, how to swim in whitewater, and much more. This is a river rescue skills course the club has designed for new boaters. This is not a regular whitewater training trip. We will be running the Hiwassee River. You need to have the required skills and equipment. This is an all day course. The class will run from 8:00am-7:00pm EST. Check in will be from 8:00am-8:30am EST. The morning portion will be land based instruction at Hiwassee Outfitters starting at 8:30am. Link to location Hiwassee Outfitters. You will be on the water all afternoon. After the class is over, we will have dinner. Catering will be provided for everyone, so there will be no need to provide your own dinner.
Required gear:

Paddle gear: Boat, paddle, spray skirt, PFD, and whitewater helmet.

Clothing: Dress for the swim. You will be swimming on the Hiwassee, which is cold. You will have an opportunity to change into your paddling clothes after we finish our morning classroom activities.

Food: Bring your lunch and enough water for a full day on and off the river.

Other: Chair, sunscreen, bug spray.

Students MUST be able to perform a wet exit without assistance

Students MUST be able to paddle class I-II whitewater (Hiwassee)
This event is free to all TVCC members in good standing. This will NOT be open for One Time Guests. If you are new to TVCC then we would love for you to join us on this event. Payment In Full In Advance Only
Students must register online. Walk-on students will not be allowed. No exceptions.
You may not attempt to register before registration opens.
Contacting the instructor or any TVCC board member directly does not count as registering for the event.
Registration is a first come, first serve basis. Moving registrants from the waitlist is a first come, first serve basis. You may not use your registration to hold a spot for a different individual.
Drug and alcohol use will not be permitted before or during the event.
