Trip Report: S. Chickamauga Creek from Shallowford Rd to Sterchi Farm on Sep 22, 2024
Trip Lead: Eric Fleming
17 paddlers met at the Shallowford put in at 10 on 9/22/24 for the 5 mile Class I paddle down to the Sterchi Farm take out.
Due to the area being 11 inches below normal rainfall the creek was a bit bony in a few places, but we made it down without having to get out of our boats.
At the low water level we were able to see the 5 Native American fish weirs, and there are 4 railroad bridges, 2 road bridges, a pipe, and the Greenway Boardwalk that runs from Camp Jordan to the TN River. Cool stuff.
The fish weirs make for some fun paddling as they create small whitewater features, a waterfall "slides", that everyone got to navigate over.
A great crew and another fun day on the water.
